Man butchers wife’s lover in matrimonial bed

A 32-year-old man, Ezekiel Igbokwe, who butchered his wife’s lover, Victor Olatundun, 38, when he caught him with his wife, Juliet Igbokwe, in his matrimonial bed, was among 23 suspects paraded by Ogun State Police Command, yesterday.
Speaking during the parade at Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Igbokwe, who has been married to his wife for 12 years at Ago-Iwoye in Ijebu-North Local Government Area of the state, said he returned from a business trip to meet the lover in his home.
Igbokwe, an electronics seller at Awa-Ijebu, said: “I am a businessman; I sell electronics at Ago-Iwoye. I travelled to Onitsha on July 25. When I came back on the 27th, I met a man inside my room and we started fighting.
“The man was stronger than I and I didn’t know what to do. Then I got a cutlass from my toilet and cut him in the hand. He died on the way, while policemen were taking him to the hospital, because their car ran out of fuel.”
He said he never suspected his wife of infidelity before the incident, adding “it is not my intention to waste a soul like this. It is Satan’s work; if I really know it will be like this, I would have walked away.
“My aim was to injure him, go to the police station and make a report. It is obvious this is Satan’s work. We did not quarrel before I went to Onitsha. She has three children for me. But I got to know my wife had one child before we met.”

The wife’s tale
In her defence, Juliet explained that she did not know what came over her to have allowed the lover access to her matrimonial home.
Juliet, who claimed that she sells snuff at Awa-Ijebu, lamented that she was being maltreated by her husband, adding “when my husband and I quarrel, he would leave us and travel for months.
“I have known the man (late lover) for six months. My husband is not taking care of me. He always leaves me and the children to suffer at home.”
She said she started the clandestine relationship with the deceased a month before the incident, but that he had been a business colleague, who also traded in snuff.
She, however, said though both of them were in the couple’s room, while her husband was away, they did not have sex.
According to her, “the man has been disturbing me that he wanted to marry me. I said no, that I am married. Maybe the man used charm on me, I don’t know.
“All I know is that he called me that he wanted to see me and I told him not to come. He knows my house and when he came I didn’t know what happened.”
Asked how the man got to know her home, she said: “He used to deliver goods to me in the house. But on the day of the incident, he told me he was coming from somewhere and that he wants to sleep in our place till the next day.
“He didn’t know that my husband was away. He tried to sleep with me, but later he didn’t.”
The state Police Commi-ssioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, who paraded the couple and 22 others nabbed over various crimes, said Ezekiel was arrested on July 25 at 12:25p.m. at Peace Lodge, Itura Street, for killing Olatundun, who lived at Bishop's Court, both in Awa-Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.
