Chief priest cuts daughter in 2 while fighting wife

A 30-year-old chief priest, Mr. Eno Akpan, who slashed his two-year-old daughter in two weekend, said he had no intention of killing the baby, but that the mother threw the child in the direction of his machete.
Mr. Akpan, the chief priest of Ikot Akpan Udo village, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, who was paraded by the state Police Command after his arrest by operatives of Special Armed-Robbery Squad, SARS, for taking the life of his two-year-old daughter, said he was annoyed that his wife returned home late from where she went to sell seafood.
According to Akpan, he had given his wife seafood to go and sell on that Saturday morning and bring money for them to buy food, only for her to return home at about 10p.m.
He said: “I was annoyed when she came back past 10p.m. and could not give any convincing reason why she stayed that long. I brought out my machete and merely threatened her with it. But she quickly threw the child in the direction of the machete and it slashed the baby into two.
“I regret what has happened because I had no intention of killing my daughter.”
The Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, Delia Nwawe, who paraded the chief priest on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Murtala Mani, at the headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, yesterday, said the suspect would be charged to court for the law to determine whether he had any right to take life of anybody or not.
