River govt’s peace move collapses, as 13 cultists die in renewed war

NO fewer than 13 suspected cultists have been feared killed in battle for supremacy at Rumuoro village, Ogbakiri community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was learned that the cultist groups, Icelanders and Deygbam, had clashed on Monday, which resulted in the casualties.
This is happening barely less than three weeks after cultists in Ogbakiri community promised to embrace the amnesty programme of the state government.
Recall that the Special Assistant to Governor Nyesom Wike on Amnesty, Mr. Ken Chindah, had, in company of the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Mr. John Wokoma, gone to the community to woo the cultists for peace.
However, after the peace moves, the boys were again locked in another round of tussle.

Fresh war
It was learned that the killing started on Sunday, when the ruler of the community allegedly called both cult groups for a peace talk, to complement the efforts of the government.
The two rival cult groups had engaged in an argument, which lead to the killing of a Deygbam member.
A source in the community, Mr. Nyema (surname withheld) narrated that the Deygbam members waited till after their member was buried before going on rampage.
The source said the Deygbam boys went to the Icelanders camp, when they were having a meeting, opened fire and killed 12 persons.
Meanwhile, Rivers State Police Command has not reacted on the incident as calls and messages forwarded to the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni were not returned or replied at press time.
