Between DSTV and Startimes: the Advantage of Competition

Time was when DSTV was the Lord of the manor. It dictated the terms of its offerings and treated its customers like vassals who existed at the pleasure of the emperor. Its lowest rate was N2600 or thereabout for a month of primary channels on its pay tv network.
Then came Startimes which tailored its offering to suit the pocket of the masses. For as low as N1200 per month you can get on its bouquet and enjoy the best of satelite television and it went further to design a bouquet for as low as N800. Per month. The people flocked to the Chinese powered network to the detriment of South African owned DSTV.

I am happy my husband is dead

My husband recently died suddenly after suffering from a massive heart attack. We have been married close to 20 years and have three children. Everyone expects me to be devastated by his death, but I’m not. He was a real socialite, very popular and friendly to friends and relations. But to me and our children, he was nasty, miserly and grumpy.
What’s worse, he had lots of affairs he wasn’t sorry for. As at the time of his death, he’d gloated to me and the children that he was planning on taking a second wife and selling the family house, so he would have money to buy a flat and pay the rent for a flat he would move the rest of us into.
So you can imagine how jubilant I was when he had a heart attack in his office. I was thankful it didn’t happen at home or his relatives might accuse me of killing him.

She threatens to tell my wife about us

For three years, I have been having an affair with a female colleague. She knows how strongly I feel about my wife and now that my wife is pregnant with our second child, I told her we should stop the affair.
To my dismay, she really got nasty and angry, threatening to spill the beans to my wife if I dumped her.
How can I make her realise it’s better if we just finish the affair quietly?

'Sorry guys and girls, someone threatening to jump off bridge'

A young woman threatened to jump off a bridge in the UK and police stopped traffic, 'negotiated' with the woman for 3 hours before succeeding in taking her into custody.
She doesn’t know she is privileged to have a caring system. Whatever she is going through, only real friends, and not government, will come to her rescue in NIGERIA.

No criminal implications on naming dog after person —Lawyers

The incoming Second National Vice President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Monday Ubani, yesterday, said that no offence is committed by someone naming his dog after somebody else.
He said: “In the eye of the law, it is not criminal for somebody to name his or her dog after another person. It may be offensive by examining the circumstances under which the incident happened.
“I understand that a particular dog was named after a neighbour and both of them were not in good terms;  in a Hausa community somewhere in the South-West.
“So expediency would have prevailed on him not to name his dog after somebody he was quarrelling with.
“The Bible says wisdom profited for direction. Anything you are doing must be with wisdom. If such a thing would provoke unnecessary argument, you should avoid it.”

How to make sure your child is safe in SEVEN simple steps

The first piece of advice tells parents to throw out their children's personalised rucksacks, lunch boxes and other items that visibly show off their child's name to people they don't know.
This is because when strangers know your child's name they come across as friendly and familiar - and subsequently your child is much more likely to trust them.
The author of the article Natasha Daniels says: 'Every morning as I drive my kids to school, I see these two very young girls walking to school on their own. From down the street I can make out both of their glittery names on their backpacks.'

THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT: "Get up, get up, we have to finish this."

Two athletes have provided one of the most inspirational moments of the Rio Olympics so far when they tripped over each other in the women’s 5,000 metres - then helped one another to carry on.
American Abbey D’Agnostino and Nikki Hamblin of New Zealand were 3,000m into the race today when D’Agnostino appeared to clip Hamblin’s heel, sending both tumbling to the ground.
But instead of appearing frustrated that their dreams of glory were apparently over, both women put on a display of the Olympic  spirit that will live on long after the Games are over.

FACEBOOKING OR PHASE LOSING?

As much as all classes of people are today found on social networks, vice chancellors, school principals, CEOs, parents and teachers, it is a hardly expressed truth that one of the best things that happened to many of us was the unavailability of social media during our teen age. A careful assessment of posts on Facebook and other social media shows the height of intellectual decline among young people.
Ask teachers at all levels, it takes so much monitoring to have students keep their phones while classes are ongoing. It is a great thing to socialise, but there was always time for it back then. We had girlfriends in secondary school but relationships were over once schools closed. We ghetto children had our wonderful night plays and storytelling time but it was over once our father or mother called us in at 8pm. Do these new media children stop talking and chatting at any time of the day? How many young people do or post anything productive on social media? How many young people are still sat down by their parents to listen to Network News on NTA as it was then? Super Story ended that! I wish to carry out a study on the percentage of youths who know other media like educational media and even read online newspapers with their phones; I am scared already at what my findings may be.

Man butchers wife’s lover in matrimonial bed

A 32-year-old man, Ezekiel Igbokwe, who butchered his wife’s lover, Victor Olatundun, 38, when he caught him with his wife, Juliet Igbokwe, in his matrimonial bed, was among 23 suspects paraded by Ogun State Police Command, yesterday.
Speaking during the parade at Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, Igbokwe, who has been married to his wife for 12 years at Ago-Iwoye in Ijebu-North Local Government Area of the state, said he returned from a business trip to meet the lover in his home.
Igbokwe, an electronics seller at Awa-Ijebu, said: “I am a businessman; I sell electronics at Ago-Iwoye. I travelled to Onitsha on July 25. When I came back on the 27th, I met a man inside my room and we started fighting.
“The man was stronger than I and I didn’t know what to do. Then I got a cutlass from my toilet and cut him in the hand. He died on the way, while policemen were taking him to the hospital, because their car ran out of fuel.”
He said he never suspected his wife of infidelity before the incident, adding “it is not my intention to waste a soul like this. It is Satan’s work; if I really know it will be like this, I would have walked away.
“My aim was to injure him, go to the police station and make a report. It is obvious this is Satan’s work. We did not quarrel before I went to Onitsha. She has three children for me. But I got to know my wife had one child before we met.”

Will sex make him like me more?

Some months back, I was dating someone in my office who came for his youth service.
I really liked him, but he was not that keen and in the end, he moved back to his state. He called recently and invited me to visit. I agreed straight away.
I’m staying with him next month and I would like to prove my feelings by sleeping with him. What do you think?

He keeps trying to go below

I've just met this guy who works a few building’from where I work. We’ve only been going out a few weeks and he keeps trying to touch me down below.
I’ve told him to stop doing this but he won’t listen. I don’t want to dump him, I just want him  to stop trying to go below— I hate it. What do you suggest I do?

Why should you condemn men's fantasy

A few weeks back, you wrote that all men fantasise about sleeping with other women and that really got me angry. Women do not want to be told this is normal.
Can you tell me what is normal about a woman going to bed with her husband, and while they’re making love, he’s thinking about someone else? I like to believe that I am good looking enough for him to think only about me when we make love.
If I ever found out that he was fantasising about other women, our relationship would be over. It would be as bad as if he sleeps with another woman behind my back.
If a man is sexually fulfilled, why does he need to go elsewhere?

I've finally met a girl who loves sex

My girlfriend comes from a very religious background and doesn’t believe in sex before marriage and this could be quite frustrating for me.
Now, I’ve met this girl at the university and we’ve had sex. I am 22 and my girlfriend 23. We’ve been together for two years, though we have known each other since secondary school. All she agrees to is a kiss and nothing more.
When I met this new girl a few months back, she looked like the girl of my dreams and the most beautiful I have ever met. I got to know her and we started going out as friends.
Then, one night, we went to a party, we both had a lot to drink and started kissing. We then went upstairs to an empty bedroom.

#blacklife matter: Fuck Michael Jordan

On Monday, Michael Jordan decided to break his Clarence Thomas-like silence on race relations in this country to denounce the killings of unarmed black men, women and children at the hands of police. In a piece for The Undefeated, Jordan also condemned the killings of cops and donated $1 million each to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s Institute for Community-Police Relations.
It’s with great thought and all due respect that I say, “F–k Michael Jordan.”

These 3 men have been milking Abuja VIP dry

Police have arrested three members of a gang that attempted to dupe a top aide to President Muhammadu Buhari and other top Nigerians.

Many important persons  had fallen victims to their exploits and paid huge sums of money without informing police.

The source further said that worse hit by the threats were some governors visiting Abuja for their state allocation.
According to him, "these governors always come here for a jamboree and they spend money recklessly as if tomorrow does not exist.
“These fraudsters always capitalise on that and start bombarding them with threat calls. They also connive with some of their aides in Abuja, who supplies them with all the information needed to threaten their bosses.
“In fact, one of the governors nearly had a heart attack after calls came persistently with threats to expose him and kidnap members of his family.”
