The remains of Damilola Fajana, the pregnant woman who was hit by a stray bullet during a cross fire between members of Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, and pipeline vandals two weeks ago in Arepo area of Ogun State, was interred weekend.
The deceased, who was six months pregnant, was reportedly on her way from the hospital where her husband, Bukola Fajana, was admitted, when she was killed.
Late Fajana, a lawyer who was said to be in her car when a stray bullet hit her in the neck, was planning to leave for the United States of America, USA, this month to have her first baby.
Following her husband’s ill-health, she was said to have postponed her visit to immigration office, for her data capture, to the next day (Thursday, April 30), only for her life to end on arriving the entrance of her Beachland Estate abode.
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Onaja Michael, said Fajana was rushed to a private hospital where she was rejected, adding that she died while being rushed to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
It would be recalled that the armed vandals came out in droves penultimate Wednesday, and fired indiscriminately, in protest of the alleged killing of one of their members by OPC, on April 25.
Some residents had reportedly fled their abodes due to the gun battle between the vandals and OPC members.
Efforts to reach Bukola Fajana, the widower, on phone failed as all calls were diverted.
A family source said the demise of the Ekiti State-born lawyer came as a shock to her widower, as they had barely lived together as husband and wife for a year.
