Toyota recalls 2.9 million cars over seatbelt defect

Global recall affects 4x4 models produced between July 2005 and January 2016.
Toyota Motor Corp is conducting a global recall of 2.87 million 4x4 vehicles because their rear seatbelts could be damaged in the event of a crash.
The world's largest carmaker said in an email on Thursday that the lap-shoulder seatbelts in the vehicles' second-row seats could come in contact with the metal seat cushion frame in a severe frontal accident.
"There is a possibility that, in the event of a high-speed frontal collision, the seatbelt webbing could contact a portion of the metal seat cushion frame, become cut and separate," the statement said.
"If this occurs, the seatbelt may not properly restrain the occupant, which could increase the risk of injury to the occupant."

Boutros Boutros-Ghali dies at 93

The first African former  UN Secretary General, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, has died, aged 93, the UN Security Council has said.
Boutros Boutros-Ghali, who led the UN between 1992 and 1996, died at a Cairo hospital yesterday, after being admitted with a broken pelvis.
He took office in 1992 at a time of growing influence for the UN, following its decisive role in the Gulf War, serving one five-year term.
However, he faced criticism for the UN’s failure to stop the 1994 genocide in Rwanda and Washington was angered by his opposition on NATO’s bombing campaign in Bosnia.
The 15-member Security Council observed a minute’s silence after the announcement of Boutros-Ghali’s death, which was made at the start of a session on Yemen’s humanitarian crisis.

Is he a sex maniac?

I recently met my boyfriend at a friend's party and we’ve been having a very passionate affair. We make love most nights and don’t get out of bed until late at the weekend.
Recently, I was given a challenging responsibility at work and needed my sleep more than sex. A few nights ago, I woke up early in the morning to find my boyfriend masturbating next to me in the bed.
I didn’t let on I was awake, but I was shocked. We’ve been having so much sex I feel insulted he couldn’t take a break for the four weeks my work-load would ease.
Is he some sort of a sex maniac?

VALENTINE: What's the Meaning of Love

Man's ability to excuse his (in)action is wonderful. This particular ingenuity has manifested in our quest for, and display of, love. Recall the things you did (good and bad)and what you bore to prove love for someone or something, and you will know what I mean.

The simplest manifestation of love, to me, is giving in humility. And since one good turn deserves another, humility then begats humility.

I mean, if John loves James, it will humble John. James, if he loves John, responds with humility too. I am actually talking about John 3:16. Bros G so loved He gave. The giving demanded a "coming down," which He did in Jesus' arrival on earth. Same qualities kept manifesting before He performs any miracle: "He had compassion," the Bible always always say.

I used John and James? Its because I do not believe love has types. Eros, phileo, agape! It is man excusing his (in)action. Love is love. Or does God have types? Or are you talking of lust?

There are just rules that guide manifestion.

HAPPY VALENTINE.

I still find other men attactive

I’m in a steady relationship with a guy I met three years ago, and I love him. Lately, however, I’ve been looking more and more at other men. Does this mean I’m falling out of love with my man?
Aisha,

Experts agree that eighteen months to two years into a relationship is a testing time. Up until then, delicious love hormones have been pumping through your bodies, keeping you both infatuated and ‘in lust’.

I won N2 million promo; now my ex says she still loves me

I was stunned but overjoyed when I won a N2 million naira promo of one of the telecoms companies months back. My name and pictures were in the papers and a few days after my win, my ex-fiancee got in touch and asked to see me again.
She was the one who broke off the engagement two years ago and I was devastated when it happened. Now she’s told me she’d never stopped loving me.

No be joke o!

Gaddafi's gun, Lybia and the Western connection

Gaddafi's golden gun bears the words "Made in Belgium" - an engraving that points to another story. Three years ago, arms experts spotted a single advanced Belgian rifle in the hands of militants in Gaza. But how had a group listed by the EU and the US as a terrorist organisation obtained the weapon? Arms expert Nic Jenzen-Jones and the BBC's Thomas Martienssen tracked its journey and traced it back to a 12m euro shipment of Belgian arms to Libya agreed in 2008.
When Libyan rebels celebrated the death of Muammar Gaddafi, the colonel's gold-plated pistol was held up as a symbol of their victory - I watched as they passed it among themselves. Four years on, I've been back to Libya to find the man with the golden gun.

Authorities are destroying all books. What novel or story would you memorise to save it for posterity?

Imagine the authorities have banned and are destroying all books. The only way to save them is to memorize them. Theologians have most of the various religious texts memorized; actors have the plays. Most shorter poems are also probably already learned. What novel or story would you commit to memory, in order to save it for posterity?

Pepper soup seller slumps, dies at the sound of gunshots

THERE was confusion in Kwale, headquarters of Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State, Tuesday night, following the sudden death of a 50-year-old pepper soup seller at the sound of sporadic gunshots by police officers.
The deceased, whose identity could not be ascertained at press time, allegedly slumped and died after trembling in shock during the gunshots from men of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad of Delta State Police Command, who stormed the area to arrest the National President of Ndokwa Youths Alive Progressive Forum, NYAPF, Mr. Ozegbe Adoh.
Adoh was apprehended on allegations of involvement in the vandalism of the Independent Power Plant at Okpai in Ndokwa East Local Government Area last year.
The police, sources said, had invaded a shop close to the deceased’s pepper soup restaurant at Esumpi Road, where Adoh was relaxing with his friends at about 8p.m., shooting sporadically into the air.
“The deceased was not hit by stray bullets, but was visibly overwhelmed by shock at the sound of the gunshots, which made him to slump,” a source, who craved anonymity, said.
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Celestina Kalu, said Adoh was a fleeing prime suspect in the vandalism of the power plant.
She said men of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad had reported a case of vandalism of the IPP via a petition by the Nigeria Agip Oil Company on November 19, 2015.
Kalu said intensive surveillance of the team resulted in Adoh’s arrest, saying investigation was in progress.

22-yr-old kills cousin over girlfriend, surrenders to police 6 months after

Just like Macbeth, in Shakespeare’s play of same name, murdered sleep and could no longer sleep, 22-year-old Ndifreke Joseph Clement, disturbed by sleepless nights and traumatic experiences after murdering his 23-year-old cousin, Ubong Edet, surrendered himself to police six months after the crime.
Clement, a native of Akon Itam, Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, who handed himself over to police at Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, said he slashed his cousin’s throat after beating him to coma because Edet slept with his girlfriend in August 2015.
He said: “I cannot remember the exact date now, but it occurred in a night in August 2015 in the one room apartment we shared. On that day, I returned from work to meet the door locked.
“I knocked on the door and waited for over five minutes before my cousin could come to open the door. When I went into the room, I saw my girlfriend weeping and blood running from her nostrils.
“I asked her what happened and she said Ubong beat, wounded and forcefully had sex with her. But after opening the door for me, Ubong went away and did not come back until very late in the night.

Police to introduce stun guns to counter extra-judicial killings

Against the backdrop of repeated cases of extra-judicial killings in the country, Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has said stun guns would be introduced before the year ends.
He also directed that henceforth, any policeman who killed any Nigerian would be arrested within 48 hours and dealt with.
Stun guns only demobilises and the introduction is expected to stop allocation of live bullets.
Disclosing that many officers in this category had been arrested, given orderly room trial and dismissed for taking laws into their hands, Arase said the force management would not relent until police officers attuned themselves to respect human rights and the Rule of Law.
The IGP, who spoke at a meeting with DIGs, AIGs and CPs in Abuja, said: “In a force of 320,000 men, you cannot rule out some deviants, but we have put machinery in place to check these excesses and unlawful acts of policemen.”

    MTN engages ex-US Attorney-Gen over NCC's $3.9bn fine

With one month and two weeks left to settle with the Nigerian authorities over the $3.9 billion fine imposed by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, for failing to disconnect unregistered users, MTN Group has hired the former Attorney-General of the United States of America, Eric Holder, to help challenge the propriety of the fine.
The former U.S. law enforcement officer, Holder, is said to have pleaded with Nigerian officials last month on behalf of the telecoms company without success.
It will be recalled that MTN Nigeria was originally given a fine of $5.2 billion in October 2015, and, after weeks of lobbying, had the fine reduced by 25 percent to $3.9 billion.

Reps uncover 169 ghost companies on N1trn rail contracts

THE House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Failed Rail Contracts, yesterday, unearthed 169 ghost companies that registered as contractors with the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, for projects valued at N1 trillion.
The ad hoc committee raised the alarm during the investigative hearing at the National Assembly, that none of the 169 companies invited by the committee had shown up.
Chairman of the committee, Johnson Agbonnayinman, (Ikpoba/Okha federal constituency), said the need to invite the contractors was important, but lamented that efforts to reach them had so far proven fruitless.
He added that so far, only the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC, responded to the committee’s letter.

Rousey, Ali, Trump: How big winners bounce back from a loss

Donald Trump told everyone he was a winner - just like some sports stars do before a big match. So how do braggadocios winners deal with losing?
Not long after early results from the Iowa caucuses started coming in late Tuesday night, the internet lit up with the news that Donald Trump - who has spoken constantly throughout the campaign about his ability to "win" - was projected to lose.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz surpassed Trump by about 4% of the caucus vote.
Few Trump detractors missed the opportunity to label Trump a "loser". "Dead Clown Walking", crowed the front page of the New York Daily News. The anonymous internet troll who controls the URL www.loser.com made it direct traffic to Trump's Wikipedia entry. Hundreds began re-sharing a two-year-old tweet by Trump that read, "No one remembers who came in second".

    Donald Trump going, goin, go...

For the first time in the 2016 race, the conventional rules of politics applied to Donald Trump.
Ted Cruz's organizational strength, his well-funded super PAC and his retail politicking carried the day as the Texas senator bested the billionaire businessman, 28% to 24%, on the strength of evangelical voters.
Monday night's triumph also suggested there are limits to Trump's attacks, too -- showing that voters didn't penalize him for his Canadian birth and his relative lack of friends in Washington, as the real estate mogul had hoped.
But Cruz will find himself on shakier ground as the race shifts to New Hampshire, where Trump has a sizable lead in the polls and establishment candidates such as Rubio are likely to fare better with voters.
For all of Cruz's success in Iowa, the results also underscored the threat posed by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, another freshman of Cuban heritage, who finished a strong third with 23%.

N2bn pension fraud: Interpol declares Maina wanted

The stage appears set for the arrest and prosecution of former Chairman of the Presidential Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, who has been accused of looting N2 billion of pension funds.
The development follows the request by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to police to track him and the publication of Maina’s name on the list of wanted persons with the International Police Organisation, INTERPOL, in Lyon, France.
The issuance of the alert on Maina by Interpol had effectively drawn international spotlight on him and makes him a subject of arrest in any country.
Vanguard also gathered that EFCC had on November 18, 2015 written to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, seeking his assistance “to issues an INTERPOL Red Alert” on Maina, who had been charged to the Federal High Court on July 10, 2015 with charge No. HC/ABJ/CR/297/2015.

Policeman rapes 7-year-old girl in Ebonyi

A policeman attached to Ebonyi State Police Command, Ndubuisi Ewerem, was, weekend, detained at Central Police Station for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl in Abakaliki.
The suspect sent the victim to buy onions and defiled her when she returned to deliver the item.
While neighbours said the victim was actually raped by the policeman, others alleged that the suspect sexually abuse teenagers.
In a telephone chat, the Commissioner of Police, Peace Abdallah, who confirmed the incident, insisted that whether the victim was raped or fingered, the act perpetuated by the policeman was a crime punishable under the law.
According to the Commissioner of police, the result of the medical test conducted on the victim would ascertain whether she was raped or not, as investigation into the case was still on.
Last week, the police boss announced the dismissal of a police Corporal with Afikpo North Division, Okporie Okporie, for defiling a nine-year-old girl in Ebonyi.
