A policeman attached to Ebonyi State Police Command, Ndubuisi Ewerem, was, weekend, detained at Central Police Station for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl in Abakaliki.
The suspect sent the victim to buy onions and defiled her when she returned to deliver the item.
While neighbours said the victim was actually raped by the policeman, others alleged that the suspect sexually abuse teenagers.
In a telephone chat, the Commissioner of Police, Peace Abdallah, who confirmed the incident, insisted that whether the victim was raped or fingered, the act perpetuated by the policeman was a crime punishable under the law.
According to the Commissioner of police, the result of the medical test conducted on the victim would ascertain whether she was raped or not, as investigation into the case was still on.
Last week, the police boss announced the dismissal of a police Corporal with Afikpo North Division, Okporie Okporie, for defiling a nine-year-old girl in Ebonyi.
