The stage appears set for the arrest and prosecution of former Chairman of the Presidential Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, who has been accused of looting N2 billion of pension funds.
The development follows the request by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to police to track him and the publication of Maina’s name on the list of wanted persons with the International Police Organisation, INTERPOL, in Lyon, France.
The issuance of the alert on Maina by Interpol had effectively drawn international spotlight on him and makes him a subject of arrest in any country.
Vanguard also gathered that EFCC had on November 18, 2015 written to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, seeking his assistance “to issues an INTERPOL Red Alert” on Maina, who had been charged to the Federal High Court on July 10, 2015 with charge No. HC/ABJ/CR/297/2015.
INTERPOL's letter
In a response to the anti-graft agency’s request, Olushola Subair, Commissioner of Police, INTERPOL, in a letter dated January 11, and addressed to the Chairman, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, informed the agency that its request had been processed and a notice duly issued by the INTERPOL.
The Commissioner said: “Be informed that the Bureau has taken necessary action on the wanted fugitive as requested with INTERPOL General Secretariat, Lyon, France.
“He has been published on the INTERPOL Red Notice accordingly.”
The import of the notice, it was learned, is that there is nowhere in the world for Maina, who was indicted by EFCC for fraud and the theft of over N2 billion in pension funds in the office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, to hide.
