Reps probe safety standards at Kaduna Airport

DISTURBED by reports on the safety of the Kaduna Airport, the House of Representatives, yesterday, mandated its Committee on Aviation to investigate activities at the airport to ensure that international safety standard is met.
The lawmakers, during plenary, also mandated the commit-tee to inspect the ongoing repair works at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and report back in one week.

The developments were sequel to the adoption of a motion entitled Need to Review and Ensure that Kaduna International Airport Complies with Operational and Safety Requirements as Contained in Prescribed Aerodrome Standard of Nigeria Civil Aviation Acts and Regulation.
It will be recalled that due to a temporary closure of the Abuja Airport for runway repairs, ad hoc flight operations commenced at the Kaduna Airport as an alternative.
Moving the motion under matters of urgent public importance, Adeyinka Ajayi (Osun, APC), said safety concerns surfaced at the Kaduna Airport despite assurances by the Federal Government.
