DPO, one other dead over suspected kidnappers' den
FOLLOWING the attack on a Divisional Police Officer over rumours of discovery of a kidnappers’ den at Adekile area of Ibadan, which led to his death, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Katsina, has said he would ensure that the hoodlums involved in the attack were arrested.
He said this yesterday while carrying out an on-the-spot assessment of the scene.
Some people had informed police that kidnap victims were kept in the house suspected to be a kidnappers’ den.
The police were said to have stormed the place only to discover nothing.
Their explanation failed to convince the people, who alleged that the issue was similar to the kidnappers’ den discovered last year at Soku.
Subsequently, they allegedly attacked the policeman, who later died of the wounds he sustained to his head.
The state police boss, who conducted Governor Abiola Ajimobi round the scene of the incident at Adekile in Ibadan North-East area of the state, disclosed that two persons died in the incident.
The commissioner further explained that the slain police officer had responded to a distress call from Adekile, only to be attacked later by the hoodlums when he could not find the bodies they alleged were in the building.
According to Mr. Katsina, while the DPO was explaining to the irate youths to remain calm as further investigation would be carried out, he was attacked and shot in the head.
He added that before the DPO died, also fired his gun at his attacker, who died on the way to the hospital.
Governor Ajimobi appealed to the people of the state to avoid violence in all ramifications, promising to support police in the arrest of the suspected attackers.
