For posing as a journalist working with TV Continental, TVC, a man, Soji Gboye, was arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Task Force, weekend. He told newsmen that he usually gets out of trouble by claiming to be a journalist.
Disclosing this to newsmen, Chairman of the task force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, said the suspect, who lives at 5, Adesoye Street, Mende, Maryland, Lagos, was arrested while obstructing the personnel of the agency from performing their legitimate duty around the area.
Soji was arrested alongside 67 miscreants during an enforcement exercise carried out in Maryland area of the state.
The chairman also said traders selling or displaying their wares at unauthorised places were dislodged during the exercise.
According to him, the 36-year-old man from Ilaje, Ondo State, who claimed he was a correspondent with TVC, could not properly identify himself when interrogated.
SP Egbeyemi said he contacted the management of the media outfit, who denied that Gboye was in their employ.
It was gathered that on interrogation, he confessed that he had never worked with a media outfit. Gboye said he claimed to be a journalist to regain his freedom and that he does so whenever he had issues with uniformed men.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garuba Umar, has directed that all the 67 suspects be charged to court, while the fake journalist be transferred immediately to State CIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
SP Egbeyemi, who said the agency and other security outfits would not relent at getting rid of criminals and hoodlums, enjoined members of the public to always furnish security outfits with information on criminal activities across the state.
