SOKAPU, Miyetti Allah differ over 24-hr curfew in Zangon Kataf

As calm returned to Samaru Kataf in Atyap Chiefdom, Zangon Kataf council of Kaduna State, Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association, MABCA, yesterday, disagreed over the propriety of the 24-hour curfew slammed on the council.
Meanwhile, the five people, who had been hospitalised, following gunshot believed to have been carried out by herdsmen Tuesday evening, have been stabilised and are awaiting special surgeries.
Speaking on the 24-hour curfew declared few hours after the incident, the Kaduna State Chairman of MACBA, Alhaji Haruna Tuga, said: “I think the curfew was wise and timely. It has done much to save the deterioration of the situation. Kaduna State Government should be praised for this.
“I want to say here that there could have been a small band of people that would have exploited the killings into another issue of more serious insecurity.”
However, the President of SOKAPU, Dr. Musa Solomon, said: “Our quest for a reprieve from the killings of our innocent ones by well-known perpetrators herdsmen is not in doubt.
“We support any curfew that will  be used to fish out the murderers. But the 24-hour is nothing but punitive to our law-abiding members.
“Many cannot leave their homes to look for their daily bread, while the killer herdsmen are in the bush with their cattle, going on with life as usual.”
