Operatives of the Abia State Police Command have reportedly shot dead a kidnapper and nabbed five suspected hoodlums, who allegedly burgled a building at Ogbor Hill as well as a betting outfit along Azikiwe Road in Aba.
Nnenna, repackaging Lady
Among the suspects paraded was a lady, Nnenna Sunday, who was arrested for allegedly repackaging expired products and selling them to members of the public.
Nnenna, who resides at Ukaegbu Road, Ogbor Hill, Aba, specialises in using chemicals to erase the production numbers and expiry dates of food products like snacks, beef sausage and repackage same.
Items recovered from her include cartons of expired snacks, especially biscuits and sausage rolls, as well as chemicals and repackaged cartons of snacks ready for sale.
Oyebade, who warned the public to be cautious about the food products they consume, disclosed that the suspect had confessed to the crime, while efforts are on top gear to arrest other members of the syndicate.
It was learned that members of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Owerri-Nta Police Division, shot dead the yet-to-be identified kidnapper at the point of collecting ransom from the family of a kidnapped victim.
Police sources said the late kidnapper and members of his gang had negotiated a N500,000 ransom from the family of one Sebastine Azubuogu, who lives at Abayi, Aba, without knowing that SARS operatives had laid ambush for him.
The suspect engaged policemen in a gun battle, but was gunned down and later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital.
Items recovered from him are four live cartridges, while efforts are on top gear to arrest other members of the gang.
