NO fewer than eight persons, yesterday, died in a motor accident along Ugwuonyeama, Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Enugu State with four sustaining severe injuries.
According to Enugu State Police Command, seven members of a family were killed in the accident that occurred at about 8a.m., on the Enugu axis of the expressway.
It was gathered that the victims were rushed to Parklane and Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, where the family travelling with Toyota Carina E were confirmed dead and deposited at a mortuary.
The State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said it involved a Toyota Camry with number plates CM960FKJ and a Toyota Hiace bus with number plates ENU75YY, belonging to a mass transit company.
He said the two vehicles were on speed when they collided in one lane.
According to him, seven passengers in the Toyota car, who are members of the same family and one other from the bus, died in the accident.
The police spokesperson said their bodies had been deposited in the mortuary of the Enugu State University of Teaching Hospital, ESUTH, Parklane.
He said four others sustained injuries in the crash and were receiving medical attention at the same hospital while investigation into the incident had commenced.
