Drunk breaks mum’s hand, commits suicide in Adamawa

IT was a mixed bag of incidents, yesterday, in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, when a 23-year-old drunkard, Fidelis Musa, broke his mother’s hand and committed suicide, after which a pregnant woman showed up, claiming late Musa was responsible for her condition.
His lifeless body was found dangling in his room in Jimeta, Yola.
A neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described Musa as a drunk that always fomented trouble in the community. According to the source, on the day Musa committed suicide, he attacked his mother.

The source said: “The man was restless throughout today (yesterday); he fought everybody that came to their house and broke his mother’s left hand.”
Innocent Henry, another neighbour added: “Already, we have taken the woman to a traditional doctor, who is working on her bone.”
Innocent further explained that late Musa’s behaviour made the family to plan deserting the house. He said the situation might have forced him into drug addiction and eventual suicide.

Family members react
Meanwhile, a senior sister to the deceased, who preferred anonymity, said the family was shocked to note that a pregnant lady suddenly surfaced in their compound, claiming she was impregnated by Musa.
Uncle to the late Musa, Ali Hassan, said that the guy had been behaving strangely, telling all his family members that one of them would pass away this week.
Hassan said: “I am uncle to the deceased. He has been making negative confessions, especially a day to when he died. He told everyone that someone will die tomorrow within his family member.
“He was an apprentice generator repairer. We noticed the strange behaviour without foreknowledge that he was going to commit suicide.”
The state Police Command confirmed the incident, saying investigation is on.
