Magistrate J. O. Adepoju of Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, yesterday, ordered the remand in prison custody of Mr. Chidi Ubochiadinjo and his wife, Nkiru, for allegedly bathing one Miss Ogochukwu Nwosu with substance suspected to be acid.
Mrs. Adepoju rejected the plea of the defence counsel to release the couple due to lack of evidence on the part of the prosecutors, Lagos State Government and Women Advocates Research & Documentation Centre, WARDC.

She asked that the couple be remanded till tomorrow, when the case will be heard.
The couple had been arraigned on a four-count charge of attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm to the victim.
According to the victim’s brother, Peter Nwosu, Nkiru became a suspect based on her incessant calls and text messages to his sister after she heard that her husband intended to make the young lady his second wife.
According to Nwosu, “my elder sister, Ogochukwu angered Nkiru, whose husband had asked my sister to be his second wife. Immediately Nkiru got information of her husband’s intention, she began to make calls and send texts messages, threatening to make my sister’s life miserable.
“A day after the incident, she called Ogochukwu’s number and I picked the call. She said that the acid poured on my elder sister was the beginning of her woes.”
Peter also said the absence of her elder sister had left the family bankrupt, as she was the breadwinner and her treatment had cost close to N2 million.
