Bauchi State Government has debunked insinuations that it misappropriated the N8.6 billion bailout funds from the Federal Government.
Governor Mohammed Abubakar stated this yesterday, when he received a delegation of executives of the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association, who paid him a courtesy visit, at the government house.
Governor Abubakar, who said he took over the mantle of leadership at a time when the country was experiencing recession, stressed that the priority of his administration was to rescue the state from it predicaments.
Abubakar said: “It beats my imagination why people will say that the Bauchi State government is stealing money. You cannot steal money when there is nothing to steal. When the bailout fund for the state was released, we used it to settle workers salaries owed by the previous administration.
“I could have diverted the funds for other purposes, but I did not.”
Earlier, the National President of the association, Ahmed Tijani, said the association was on a nationwide tour to states where the governors were products of the university.
