Jigawa commissioner’s husband arrested over fake currency fraud; bailed

The police in Jigawa State have apprehended the husband of one of the commissioners (name withheld) in the state.
The suspect was arrested by officers from Hadejia Divisional Police Headquarters, having been accused of defrauding many people with fake foreign currency.
Items recovered in his possession included N79,000 and somefake denominations of US dollars and Euros.He was released with the intervention of his wife, but that his vehicle was still in police custody.

Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usman Tilli, said he received a signal from the Divisional Police Officer of Hadejia on the issue of a man arrested for defrauding people in the name of producing foreign currencies for them.
He described the act as a criminal offence, adding that the suspect would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
In a related development, the people of Gwaram in Jigawa State, has decried the spate of kidnapping in the community, even as the village head of Malaji, Malam Bala Musa, was abducted.
Spokesman of the community, Musa Kailua, said the menace of kidnapping was becoming the business of the day in the area, calling on the police and other relevant security agencies to rescue the community.
He said the abductors demanded a ransom of N7 million from the family of the district, but added that they were given N350,000 before his release.
