Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, weekend, confirmed the death of two people from electrocution in Agwan Biri area in Minna, the state capital, with 10 others sustaining serious injuries.
It was gathered that 49 houses were affected during the incident reportedly caused by power surge that resulted from contact between 33KV line and a distribution line in the area.
The Public Relations Officer of NSEMA, who confirmed the story, said: “We have gone to the area to carry out assessment, and we can confirm that two persons died, while about 10 others were injured and that 49 houses were affected.”
Also contacted, the Head of Public Relations and Media of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, Mallam Ahmed Shekarau, confirmed the development, adding that the company has sent a fact-finding team to the scene of the incident to ascertain its cause.
In an SMS to journalists over the incident, Shekarau said “the management of the company expressed deep sympathy to the family of the two deceased and three persons receiving treatment in the hospital.”
